What it shows
It shows that the company’s safety management system meets the ISM Code for the ship types it operates. A copy of the DOC is kept on board each ship.
Validity
- Interim DOC: up to 12 months, for a new company or a new ship type
- Full-term DOC: up to 5 years, with an annual verification within three months before or after each anniversary date
Each ship also needs its own Safety Management Certificate.
